Title: Stow, East Lothian - Any one help?
Post by: sharon-tracy on Wednesday 17 August 05 06:51 BST (UK)
Can anyone assist with a look up for Andrew STENHOUSE in census for Stow for the years: 1841, 1861 or 1871.

He was born Bolton, East Lothian.
He died in Stow, East Lothian on 19 December 1871.
He had a child in Stow in 1833.
In 1851 census,  I found him out of Stow at Langshaw, Roxburghshire.
Married Agnes Easton.

Huge thanks for any help.

I can't help you with your Andrew Stenhouse, but a quick geography lesson - Stow was in Midlothian (not East Lothian), at its furthest south-east point. The next parish to the east of that was Langshaw (aka Ladhope), a division of Melrose Parish, Roxburghshire.

HI,

Have you tried freecen?

http://freecen.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

There is an Andrew Stenhouse 35, road labourer, from Stow on the 1841, but he is with Joan Stenhouse 70, servant.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the correct county as it is important when searching etc.

I went to freecen - did not find my ancestor but found his two brothers. Very excited as they had a few children I did not know about.

Go on to Scotlandspeople and you'll get a death certificate for Andrew as the death is post 1855.
From the cert. you'll be able to get details of his spouse, parents and the informant  - maybe it was his child.
