Title: HMS Arrogant circa 1801
Post by: kaperc on Wednesday 03 July 19 20:34 BST (UK)
[Please tell me if I have chosen the wrong forum for this question.]

I have an image of a will written aboard the HMS Arrogant on 10 April 1801 by a Richard McIlray, in which he bequeaths all he owns to a shipmate. It's a beatutiful thing and I would love to learn more about him. He is a part of my One-Name Study of the surname McElrea and normally I would not spend so much time on one person, but it intrigues me.

Are there any records I can search that might tell me more about him or where his ship was at that time?

Thank you,
Kathleen

Google "Captain E O Osborne Arrogant" and check out the Gentleman's Magazine 1801.

He describes some of the ship's activity in 1800.
