Hello,
TNA at ADM139/535/13494 states Andrew Richard SYMONS volunteered for the RN on 16/11/1860 and the 1861 England Census confirms his RN status at RG9/4493/48, p.17.
Sadly, these details represent the extent of my research, having failed to find any other leads.
I wonder if someone could kindly offer assistance.
Sincerely,
BAC3

I've fond his parents in East Stonehouse in 1871 and Plympton in 1881. John is described as a Greenwich/naval pensioner. 1891 he is a widower and lodger. Not to be found on 101. There are some potential deaths

There's a navy record on Andrew on HMS Implacable in 1863 (this appears to be a training ship). Signed up for 10 years

Good Morning,
Thank you for confirming my understanding of his family's background.........I am very grateful.
However, the mention of the navy record is confusing as I have searched extensively, including Implacable's history, with a NIL result. I wonder if you could offer a citation I can investigate.
Thank you once again,
BAC3

JJ and crimea1854,
I researched Ancestry's Royal Naval Seamen Index, 1853-1872 originally with a NIL result!!!
Then JJ, I noticed your reference to "Andrew Richd SYMONS" not my "Andrew Richard SYMONS" and, hey presto, my sensitive little laptop preferred your version........I need a darkened room!!!!
But thank you anyway.
