Could anyone please tell me why some ages are marked out on the record?  Thank you

Do you mean a diagonal cross through?  If so, it's usually part of the counting process after the entries have been completed. Censuses were really for statistical purposes.

Thank you, Gadget.  Some have a single stroke through and the age can be read quite easily , some are not crossed at all and the rest are 'St Andrew' crossed with no hope of knowing the age - mine fall into that category!

As it's an original, keep a note of the ref. no...input the surname & area only on SP search & check what age is recorded on the index to help?
