Hezekiah Carrall's gravestone in Hull records that he died on 12 Feb 1901. We can confirm that from our Charterhouse register which, oddly, has him down on entry as Henry and this seems only to have been corrected when he died. The grave also houses Ester Carrall who died in childbirth on 16 May 1863 aged 32, and her husband Henry who, like Hezekiah, was a toy dealer, died in 1880 aged 50. This Henry was presumably Hezekiah's brother. The informant of the death was Clara Carrall. We have no idea who she was. I can't find a marriage for Hezekiah.
Now it gets odd. Hezekiah's baptism is recorded twice, in Hull, on 4 April 1828 - twice; once as Hezekiah and once as Henry. Same date, same parents. Were there twins, or did the vicar record it twice because he wasn't sure.
And that's it. I can't find him under either name on censuses (I can only use FS). He entered the Charterhouse in 1895 so he should be on earlier censuses. His gravestone says he was a toy dealer in Queen St, Hull. Any help would be appreciated,

1891 shows a Henry Carnell 62 b Methley with a daughter Clara aged 21. Have you already ruled them out? That Henry was a wheelwright not a toy dealer

Thank you so much, both of you. I was looking for a marriage of Hezekiah and Clara too early, clearly.

It looks like Hezekiah & Henry were brothers but both baptised on the same day. The 1841 shows Hezekiah as 15 and Henry as 13. Transcribed as Corrall on Ancestry. Parents transcribed as Camlin

I had the two baptisms, but after that Henry is consistently shown as younger than Hezekiah. I wondered if Hez had been one of twins, with Henry dying in infancy, and a subsequent son given his name. I suppose we'll never know.
It's fascinating that Hez didn't marry until he was 56, and then only because he "had to". When he went into the Charterhouse Clara was only 38 so would not have been able to go with him. And since they were together on the census 4 years earlier, how come he was given a room at all?
People's lives are always more complicated than we imagine. Thanks again for your help.
