Title: Eglwysbach Wesleyan Chapel
Post by: nxf Afonwen N-Wales on Monday 24 June 19 17:48 BST (UK)
The current Wesleyan Chapel, originally built in 1806 is on Ffordd Bryn Fran near the centre of Eglwysbach.

The Eglwysbach Heritage Trail http://historypoints.org/index.php?page=eglwysbach-capel-ebeneser (http://historypoints.org/index.php?page=eglwysbach-capel-ebeneser) mentions that the Wesleyan Methodists used to meet at a nearby house called Yr Hen Gegin, two years earlier than 1806.

The closest I can find is a field name of Cae Gegin just east of the chapel but no obvious house. Does anyone know of the exact location of Yr Hen Gegin please?

A possibility is Yr Hen Bopty just around the corner from the chapel. Translated Yr Hen Bopty means The Old Bakery/Oven, the nearest I could find to The Old Kitchen.

Thank you, I had seen that previously, when searching on google, but could not find the exact location to see whether or not it appeared on old maps.

Do you know its precise location? as nearly all the houses in the village all come under the same post code LL28 5UD

There is no mention on the Tithe map  :(

If you come down Ffordd Bryn Fran to the end where it joins the main road running through the village, turn right & a few building up on the left hand side of the road is a black & white building which has AD 1895 on the outside. Yr Hen Bopty was possibly on that site before it was rebuilt.

Thank you,

I have seen a Yr Hen Bopty on rightmove, that has been sold 5 times since 1995 with the last sale in 2012, but that does not give any photos or the exact location, just the general postcode LL28 5UD...

https://www.rightmove.co.uk/house-prices/LL28-5UD.html (https://www.rightmove.co.uk/house-prices/LL28-5UD.html)

If only I could find that house...I have tried using google maps and the drive-by view to look at house names but can see many but not that one, also on postcode address finder that show many names but not Yr Hen Bopty

Go on to the webpage historypoints.org then Former Bakery, Eglwysbach. This will bring up the information for Hen Bopty with a location map below. Click on the blue symbol with a black dot in the centre, you can enlarge it for a clearer view.

Yr Hen Bopty was owned by David Robert's in mid 1970's. My girlfriend lived there with her mother Rene. The property was on the opposite side of the road from the Bee public house. There was a gap between it and the house to the right, as you look at the front of the building, wide enough for a driveway. David used to have a Triumph Roadster, like the one  that Bergerac that was in the back garden.

Thank you Ellenmai and Tarnwater.

I usually get forwarded an email from rootschat but in this case I did not, apologies for the late reply.
Thanks for both replies as now my puzzle is solved  :)

That's good they are working again, I have had some problems in the past too & it can make you look ungrateful that you haven't answered, when that's not the case at all  ;)
