My grandparents (Harold Walker ?1895 - 1957 and Amelia nee Woodhead ?1893 - 1973) I believe owned and ran the Shoulder of Mutton Hotel in Lancashire from about 1948 until they sold and went to manage the Turf Hotel in Bradford where Harold died.
I also believe that the hotel was near Accrington - in Green Haworth or Oswaldtwistle?
Any suggestions, please, as to where can I look to find more information and/ or confirm the little I have already?

I notice you list a question mark re the couples birth years . I think they are listed on the 1939 Register in Leeds which would give their birth dates but we can't post details

I haven't got as far as getting the birth certificates yet so I can't confirm then. These dates are in line with what I've found from Family Search and similar.
They were probable living at 34 Gipton Wood Road in Leeds (don't know the suburb)

Tanks, Shaun.
Kay - any idea of the date of those maps, please?

The maps Kay gave you were from 1844 and 1928 (it says at the top of the page ;)). You can also use the side by side view to see the current location:

Presumably not related to your family but thought it interesting that when I looked at the inn/hotel in earlier years and a Doctor Hartley ran the Shoulder of Mutton from at least 1802 until 1861 based on the census and newspaper articles. Doctor was his first name rather than his occupation! He is listed as the publican/inn keeper in the census. In 1861 the inn is described as Cross Edge Shoulder of Mutton Inn.
Doctor Hartley's death was announced in the Blackburn Standard June 26, 1861
On 19th instant aged 84 years Doctor Hartley, landlord of the Shoulder of Mutton Inn. The deceased was the oldest landlord in the hundred of Blackburn, having taken out 64 licenses.

Yes, interesting. Any more snippets?

I noticed this article from the Blackburn Standard (May 12, 1894)
Oh, I forgot I can't attach images to lookup request boards, pm me if you'd like to see the whole item. It's about a case concerning Bona Fide Travellers, the landlord was Thomas DUFF.

Another mention in 1859 of an assault that occurred at the Inn in the Bury Times. (Oct. 15, 1859)
I notice you are in Australia - if you become a member of the National Library of Australia you can have access to the British Library Newspapers among other things which is a great resource.

Thanks, yes, i'd like to see it. Only problem is, how to pm you? (I'm new to Rootschat)
I'll look into the National Library, see what they've got available online (don't go much to Canberra these days).

It's an online service from the Library. ;)
