Title: Bobton
Post by: hblower on Tuesday 16 August 05 16:47 BST (UK)
Hi

This is not really an occupation but a relationship.  In the 1871 census Rg10/1281/7/116/9/43 of Berkshire County Jail I found several people listed with a relationship of Bobton (If I have read it correctly).  They have various occupations so I should think they are inmates rather than staff.

Does anyone recognise the word?

Hilary

Have you noticed how he's the first of the male 'prisoners'?
I have just trawled through the next 6 pages (what a lot of inmates!)to see if they write the word again........but no if course they flipping don't  ::)

You need someone to clean up the enumerators blobby pen writing which looks like it's been written on blotting paper.
