Post by: jacquelinekeep on Wednesday 12 June 19 22:37 BST (UK)
hello every one, could anyone help me with info about my husbands grand mother florence cox which lived in the northam area. she was a very private person and we new very little about her. we know she had a brother john cox born 1900 and two older sisters harriet and annie cox born early 1890's. a man came back to me to tell she had a brother called oliver who was supposed to die young he was born 1905 or 6. a lady came back to me on the northam site to say she had a sister margaret who many years ago lived a few doors down from her, in either bond street or kings street. i have been told there were 10 of them. but i cannot find the others. florences father was john cox from eartham, sussex and came to southampton. her mother was mary thorn from southampton. i hope that you can help me.....best wishes jackie

www.freebmd.org.uk has her parents marriage in 1892 Southampton

Per GRO maiden name search - www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp

Census info is available free at www.familysearch.org

In 1911 it looks as if she and her sister Nellie were inmates in the Princess Louise Home For Children(girls ) Kingston Hill, Kingston Upon Thames. This may account for her being a very private person.

Harriet and Annie and a younger brother Sidney aged six  are with their widowed father in Southampton. The family were obviously split up because of the mother’s death.

If you use the search on the GRO website with surname COX and mother's maiden name THORN, you should be able to find her siblings
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/indexes_search.asp

(free to search, though you need to register)

There would appear to be no siblings for Florence named Margaret or Oliver.
