Title: 1850's Marriage Look up in Athlone for POWELL
Post by: steve albin on Tuesday 16 August 05 15:19 BST (UK)
Hi Folks,

Well,I have given up on a cencus look-up so I would like to see if we can find a marriage in Athlone for the late 1850's.

My great grandparents,in theory, should have married abt 1858 and were from Athlone,Ireland.

Bridget Powell (abt 1835) married to John Powell (abt 1839).

They had a daughter.....Ann Powell (abt 1860).

The POWELL family show up in Kirkland,Westmorland in the 1871 cencus. My uncle said that during WW1 their son (Harry Powell) would go AWOL from the Army in the UK and head for Athlone.

Regards

Steve

Hi Steve

I am also interested in POWELLs in Athlone.

My great grandmother Marion POWELL was born in Athlone circa 1866 to parents Henry POWELL and Eliza QUINN.

I wonder if there is a connection to your family?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hiya Rachel and Steve,

There is only one Powell listed in Griffith's Valuation for Co. Westmeath - 1854.

James Powell, Cumminstown, Kilbixy, Westmeath

Hi

There was an Anne Powel born in  20 MAR 1867 in Killucan, Westmeath
to John and Anne Powel.  The time frame is pretty close!

Cheers

Hi LH,

Many thanks. I am still trying to get my granfather's 1883/4 birth cert from Leeds which may show his Irish parents details etc....But no luck so far.

The grandmother BRIDGET POWELL took care of all the Powell grandkids plus her own and is in all the UK Cencus from 1871 onwards.

Regards
