Title: Theobald's Farm Tiptree Essex
Post by: essexalan on Friday 07 June 19 15:10 BST (UK)
As a Theobald and a member of a very large family from Great Wigborough and Layer de la Haye.
While looking at my OS map and while visit back to my local area .I found a Farm named Theobald's Farm that is now just a residential property.
It is a Grade 11 listed farm house and is circa 1600.
I have found a small amount of history about the house and  need some help to find out how the original farm got it's name. Was it named after an owner who's surname was  Theobald or were Theobald's Tenant Farmers at some time in the past.
On the OS Explorer map it's position is TL 8799 1710.
Thanks in advance
Alan

Have you looked for local history groups who may be able to help you such as:

Think you may need original documents that are not necessarily on-line.

Thank you I will check out the Tiptree  local history page.
I thought about going to the Land Registry which might be a good idea,as I used to be there front of office Security. I have a couple of friends there that might help.
