Title: Redpath family in Berwick upon tweed
Post by: retire on Monday 03 June 19 19:22 BST (UK)
Is anyone researching this family? There was a Christopher Redpath married to isabella (his second wife) He was a shoemaker in B upon T.  I believe they they died and are buried there in a churchyard. Does anyone have access to the burial records of the church there? I think there is an Ann Wilson (nee Redpath) and her husband Alexander Wilson buried there also. thanks, Retire

Though the Parish Register images don't appear to be online (unless someone knows different in which case I'd be interested) , the Bishops Transcripts are on Family Search  ( I think you may need to be signed in for the link to work)

Sadly it looks like April 1808- Mar 1809 are missing from the BTs so you'd need the Parish register for an image of Christopher's burial record.

NB though Berwick doesn't appear in the main BTS list on Family search, these images are viewable if you go via the catalogue search and click on the camera icon in the film list.

Berwick Holy Trinity burials from transcripts

Christopher Redpath, Shoemaker, died 2 Apr, buried 3 Apr 1808, age 73 yrs

Alexander Wilson died 23 Feb 1804, buried 25 Feb son of Alexander Wilson, Roper, and Ann his wife, late Redpath, age 1 yr, Stuffing.  [the only Alexander Wilson from 1803-1812]

No Isabella Redpaths of marriage age died 1803-1839 buried there that I can see.

Alexander Wilson, of Church St., age 74 buried 13 Mar 1839 [there should be a death cert for this one]
There are 3 Ann Wilsons.  Ann, age 33, of Church St, buried 22 May 1816; Ann, age 80 of Wallace Green, buried 10 Oct 1831; Ann, age 25 of Union St. buried 28 Oct 1831

Lots of Redpaths

'Is anyone researching this family?'

Look in Surname Interests, in Your Tools, below.

That's a neat trick, does it work for other places on the BT's?

Can't remember offhand if there are others not on the BT list.
I usually put the place name I am looking for in the catalogue search to see just what the LDS have.  Ditto for a film number if the name search brings up a result that just says a place (but does give a film number that the record was transcribed from) to see if I can suss out 'which' church it was.

Sometimes being really nosey pays results :-)

My 4x Great Grandmother was Sarah Redpath born around 1799, she married William Trotter in Tweedmouth about 16 March 1817.  Could it she be one of your Redpaths

Don't know how much use it will provide, but stumbled on this thread and couldn't help but contribute. Local historian, based at Newcastle Uni, currently working with Berwick's extensive Coroner's Reports collection.

3 Redpaths crop up from 1750 to 1875.
 - Edward Redpath, whose inquiry is listed 17 December 1838, is ruled to have died accidentally unsuspiciously after his nightgown caught fire.

- An inquiry for a stillborn child, given the surname Redpath, is listed 30th October 1852. No name, gender or parents are given for the child, but the entry does make note that it is an illegitimate child.

- John Redpath, whose inquiry is listed 7th November 1873, dies accidentally. He died at 19 years old.

I've listed no further detail from John's death - simply not pertinent to my work so didn't gather it at the archive - but most inquiries are remarked about in the Berwick Advertiser, at around about the same date that the inquest is registered. I'll have a neb myself, see if I can provide the newspaper clipping if it's there, and throw it into this thread if you're interested.

Don't know if this helps, hinders, complicates or just adds a bit more detail, just felt I should pop it on here in case it closes any gaps you have.

Welcome to RootsChat Madge :-)

Even if these people don't turn out to be ancestors of retire who posted the original query, your info will likely help someone in the future so it will be much appreciated at some stage :-)

and, because I am world class nosey I had a look at the inquest report on Edward Redpath. So sad.

Bewick Advertiser 22 Dec 1838, page 4 col 3
That gives Edward's middle name as Main, aged 3 years and 4 months. His father was  Ninian Redpath, a teacher.
So this looks quite possible to be Edward's baptism

and a possible for the elder brother mentioned in the inquest report
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NB9G-6R4

a possible for the parent's marriage

Added:
and Edward's burial from the Berwick Bts
