You will need to post some details for others to know where to begin to look i.e. info. of David's BMD & anything else known as well as exactly what you're looking for?

Try www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk a pay to view site. Plenty of church records in the county and statutory records from 1855.

PitsligaLad33 You must surely know roughly which century  -18th, 19th or 20th?

Just to nudge things in the right direction, Turclossie (you did mean Turclossie rather than Turcossie?), Craigmaud and New Pitsligo are in the parish of Tyrie, quite close to one another.

And for the record, there appear to be no records baptisms, banns or burials of G*rv*c* in Tyrie Parish Register. There are no births or deaths of G*rv*c* in Tyrie in the statutory records. There are two marriages: Margaret Cecilia Garvock to James Reid in 1934 and John Fraser Garvock to Mary Bella Elphinstone in 1935.

However it seems that Pitsligo was a separate registration district from Tyrie from 1855 to 1967, and New Pitsligo separate again from 1859 to 1967. Fortunately a search in the index using 'Pitsligo' also finds the ones in 'New Pitsligo' as well. This contains 14 births, 7 marriages and 9 deaths of Garvocks in (New) Pitsligo registration districts.

Looking at the census indexes for G*rv*c* in (New) Pitsligo, there are none at all in 1841 or 1851, one in 1861, 6 in 1871, 3 in 1881, 6 in 1891, 4 in 1901, and 5 in 1911.

In Tyrie, there's one in 1841, and 5 in 1851, but in those years New Pitsligo was included in Tyrie.

The 1841 and  1851 ones in Tyrie, and the 1861, 1871 and 1881 in (New) Pitsligo, are mostly one family, the head of which is William Tyrie, born in Dundee about 1806.

I suggest that you go to www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk, register, and hunt about the indexes as I have done.

You can see transcriptions of some of the census at https://freecen1.freecen.org.uk/cgi/search.pl. Note that from 1841 to 1851 the family were living in High Street, New Pitsligo and in 1881 they were at Hindhillock. This is two or three miles south-west of New Pitsligo.

There is a birth of David Ritchie Garvock in 1861, parents William Garvock and Ann Glennie, and a death of a 75-year-old David Garvock in 1937. Is this the one you are looking for?

Yeah 19th century. I think the last section is the one i am looking for, they were family friends of my family or so i am lead to believe. Thanks

Interesting coming across this on the net by chance. The Garvocks of Turclossie are related. My mother was Akexandria F Garvock. The David Garvock would therefore be my great grandad. I have a photo of him with my uncles David and Albert Garvock at Turclossie.

Turclossie is just north of New Pitsligo by a couple of miles. Practically on my doorstep. As said my mother Alexandria F Easton was a Garvock. Her other siblings were :David, Albert, Cecilia, 'Tony', John and there was another sibling who's name escapes me. She died as an infant in 1918. John F Garvock died Aug 1940 on a troop ship.

Davy Garvock was my great granny’s second husband. Her first husband was a Farquhar. I’m descended from them. I met David and Albert at Turclossie in about 1996.

PS to my earlier reply about my great granny who was Davy Garvock’s second wife. I have a photo of the two of them plus several children outside a house, possibly Turclossie but not sure. I also have a photo of Davy and Albert, definitely at Turclossie, mid90s.

Sorry. Mistake. Davy Garvock was my great granny’s second husband. I don’t know if he had been married before.

FQ, it appears your g g/m was Jessie Mutch married 1st to David Farquhar & 2nd to David Garvock in 1906...

GARVOCK DAVID / MUTCH JESSIE (matching ref. for Jessie Farquhar)
1906 - 227/B 7 New Pitsligo

This may be the 1st marriage...
FARQUHAR ALEXANDER / MUTCH JESSIE 1870 - 225/ 21 New Deer

Hello, Annie. You’re right about Alexander Farquhar, my great grandfather. I’ve often wondered where he came from. Can you go any further back with him? FQ

Go to www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and view the marriage certificate. It will tell you the names of the couple's parents including their mothers' maiden surnames, and also whether or not they were deceased.

According to Family Search Alexander Farquhar and Jessie Mutch had at least four children:
Alexander, born 12 August 1870, New Deer
Ann, born 24 February 1872, New Deer
John, born 17 July 1873, New Pitsligo
Margaret, born 7 December 1874, New Pitsligo

The 1881 census says that the family were at Backhill of Nittansheads, Parish of Tyrie:
Alexander, 43, born New Deer
Jessie, 33, born New Deer
Alexander, 10
Anne, 8
John, 7
Margaret, 6
Jessie, 4
Adam, 3
Isabella, 2
Elizabeth, 5 months
All listed as born New Deer, except Elizabeth who was born in Tyrie. (New Pitsligo is in the parish of Tyrie.)

You can and should view the original of this and other censuses at Scotland's People (SP), where you can also view the originals of other Scottish birth/baptism, banns/marriages and deaths.

Happy hunting!

Thanks, Forfarian. Adam was my grandfather. If anyone’s interested, I have the names of some of the farms where his siblings worked or settled. Also places connected with the Mutches around New Deer.

Well I know Davie Garvock snr died in 1937 at New Pitsligo, but can I find  his grave.....? I even went over the whole of the NP Turlundie cemetery yesterday to no avail. Infuriating is the word.
