Title: Wright Castledawson
Post by: karene.mcdowell on Saturday 01 June 19 22:25 BST (UK)
I’m looking for information on John Wright who had a daughter Esther Wright bc 1841. She married Thomas tipping in castledawson presbyterian church in 1862. The record shows her father to be John ( not Andrew as on LDS site!) a farmer. She lists her residence at time of marriage simply as Castledawson. I’ve tried Griffith’s but no John in Castledawson. There is a Jane listed for castledawson and Annaghmore. I’ve found a Jane Wright marriage to George Morwood in the same church around same time with father also listed as John and their family later on living in Annaghmore.  I can’t find a death for John that matches.. does any of this ring a bell with anyone. Would love to establish the right John Wright

This chap https://gw.geneanet.org/belfast8?lang=en&p=andrew&n=wright has an Andrew Wright as her father and a John Wright as Andrew's brother. Perhaps he mixed the names up when creating the page?

I've found Esther went to New York with Thomas.  John didn't go with them? There is a John Wright born in Moneymore in 1803 - have you looked at him?  Then another few around Donaghmore.

I think they have possibly picked up a very early tree I put up a long time ago that had ‘Andrew’ listed as father (from the LDS site) before I learned to check everything first hand :) ( I’ve now got a copy of the marriage certificate that clearly states John)

The detail on down re my grandfather etc are identical to how I posted it. So I’m presuming they’ve just copied it. Just wish Wright wasn't as Common a name, Tipping was easy :)

Have you got John's wife's name?

I noticed one of their children with the middle name Andrew. Did they give any of them John as a name? John could have already been deceased by the time she married (it isn't always noted). You have said you now think the other researcher copied your previous tree, but could the other researcher have compelling reasons for thinking her father was an Andew rather than a John? I've come across instances where a bride or groom's father died when they were very young and at their marriage, they gave the wrong forename for their father.

Esther ( Wright) Tipping & Thomas stayed in Castledawson, they are buried in the family plot in castledawson, as did their granddaughter Esther who married Arthur Evans.

I’ve looked at a couple of other John Wright’s, one in Ballymulderg I’ve not tried Moneymore, as I presumed (hoped!) that since they married in Castledawson it was her home church. I’ll take a look at the Moneymore one . Thanks

The “John “ has puzzled me. Their youngest son William John was born  in 1881 so it seems a bit strange to keep her fathers’s name to the end, particularly when my ggf was given Wright as his middle name... so he may have died when she was young .. I’ve not been able to find his death record.

I've had another look at the tipping that went overseas.  It appears to be Esther & Thomas' son Thomas born 1862.  I'll keep fosicking

Have been doing a bit of searching for the Wrights since it's a surname I'm interested in but unable to connect mine to any other family).

Was hoping that whenever Esther (Wright) Tipping or Jane (Wright) Morwood had children registered that the information would have been the other one- no such luck.

It looks like both Esther and Jane named eldest daughters Margaret. Thinking it might be their mother's name I search Magherafelt district deaths for a Margaret Wight but the only one with image online so far was the widow of a George Wright.

Have you seen this person?
John Wright, son of John, m.(1884 Saltersland) Margaret McIntyre

I had looked at that marriage, but missed the Morwood as a witness, strongly suggests a link as it may jane’s &  George  Morwoods daughter.

I like the logic of Margaret being Esther’s mothers name & the fact her first daughter was Margaret Jane might be a link to her sister too? I wish I could be certain.

Just to confuse the mix I found two baptisms in castledawson slightly later than Esther dob (haven’t found her baptism)

James Wright born 29/12/1844 father John Wright, mother Jane Morwood

Nancy Wright born 12/11/1842 father John Wright mother Jane Davis

Thanks to years of research from myself and another person here in Northern Ireland our DNA results have confirmed our families are connected and as well as parents for my great-great-grandfather & his likely townland of birth there are now lots of new relatives in Ireland, Canada, etc.
