Title: What Uniform from WW1
Post by: RTB on Saturday 01 June 19 09:28 BST (UK)
Hi. I have had this photo for several years now. I know it is family though probably a distant relative.  Can anyone identify the uniform for me? Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

I agree with ShaunJ, "Royal Marines Light Infantry".

Cracking photograph as well.

Excellent photograph. Mother and son perhaps?

(What does he have stuffed up the cuff of his sleeve? It looks like a handkerchief. Might that a symbol perhaps before he heads off to battle?)

Thank you all, for your very prompt replies to the photo.  There was me hoping it might have been Canadian. Back to the drawing board as to who they are.

I've never seen a tunic with a single breast pocket before. Does anybody know why that would be ? And might that also help date the photo ?

I think the single breast pocket tunic was standard issue for RMLI in WW1.
