Below:
Marriage of my great great great grandparents
Birth cert. of Elizabeth Jolley
Baptism of Elizabeth Jolley
The baptism states 'Walsh' in brackets at the end of her parents' names. Has anyone got any ideas or suggestions of where I go from there?
Her birth certificate states her mother's maiden name as 'Fairhurst'. Her parents married as Joseph Jolley and Ann Fairhurst in 1843 at St John, Wigan and It gives the parents' names as William & Elizabeth Jolley and James & Elizabeth Fairhurst.
Elizabeth's siblings where all born as Jolley and their mother's maiden name is recorded as 'Fairhurst'.
Have no idea where 'Walsh' comes from but surely it must be of some significance or is it an error by the recorder at the time?

Is it possible that Walsh was a nickname and used to distinguish one family from another with same surname living in same area.
Was there a number of Jolley families close by.

What was Ann Fairhurst's mother's maiden name. It could suggest that she was born before James and Elizabeth Fairhurst married.
-
Now that's the other problem - I can't find Ann's baptism.
I have found this which would suggest she was illegitimate and her parents married later. But I can't find a match between a Walsh and a Fairhurst. Is it possible that they never married at all but that her father was recorded on her marriage anyway?

Mmm it does say base child of Elizabeth Fairhurst. Were James and Elizabeth deceased at Ann's marriage? I'm wondering if, as an alternative, James could have been Walsh :-\

It doesn't say that they were deceased. I've tried to find James and Elizabeth Fairhurst in the 1841 census but they don't show. I'm thinking the same too - that James was Walsh!

The marriage record I have is the church record which records both mothers and fathers of bride and groom.
I could order the GRO marriage cert to see if Ann's father is recorded

I'm not really very 'up' with Lancashire bmds, etc. I've been searching on the usual sites but can't find anything to link them so far.
