The serviceman in this photo is most likely an Australian serving during WW2. I would like to know what uniform he is wearing to help me find his identity.

The uniform looks more American to me.

Without cheating from Shaun J's answer I had the same thought. Overseas or background of Western States of America. Possibly Utah. Summertime. Arid. Wooden Buildings.

I didn't think he looked like an Australian either, though I can't really put my finger on the reason why.
Can you get a clearer scan of his cap, particularly the badge? The US Army cap badges I have seen on the internet look a lot larger than this one ....

I’ve had a look at the WW2 era photos I have and Australian soldiers wore their slouch hat with pride. Officers wore caps but they were different to that.
If you think it was taken in Australia don’t forget many Americans were in Australia. I too think he is American.
He could be in other services, but the cap doesn’t look right to me.

The serviceman in this photo is possibly an American serving in Australia during WW2. Can any our Australian RootsChatters identify the background?

Thank you all for your opinions and suggestions regarding this man's uniform. A scan of his cap was not clear so I have not posted it. The photograph was with others belonging to an elderly relative. This elderly relative had no family connections with America, so I guess the serviceman will have to remain a mystery. Once again thanks for the help that is always provided by RootsChatters.
Kind regards
