Title: New Genealogy tv programme - The Generation Frame
Post by: candleflame on Sunday 26 May 19 08:36 BST (UK)
Saw this on another site and thought it'd be a programme those of us on RC might like.
I haven't posted it purely on the Scotland thread as I was told a while ago on here that some people only look at areas where they know they have relatives. It sounds like this programme might be interesting for ALL of us who love genealogy. It says it's available on BBC iplayer for those who can access that.
It's a post from Scotland's people Filming at New Register House last year for the new BBC Scotland genealogy show The Generation Frame.

The show features families investigating their own history, delving into Scotland’s rich public archive collections and meeting genealogists and experts who offer enlightening context to the family stories that have passed through the generations.

The Dome at New Register House was specially designed for our records in the 19th century and it’s still a working archive today, containing details of every birth, marriage and death registered in Scotland, with more being added every year.

The Generation Frame is shown on BBC Scotland on Mondays at 10 pm.

Watched the first episode last Monday and really enjoyed it.

Even my O/H who normally thinks these type of programs boring thought it was good. :)

Just been watching tonight's episode.

A young lady was interested in the surname of Easson from St. Monance in Fife. One name that was a possible ancestor of hers was a William Easson who died in 1882. At this point the professional researcher said he would check this death certificate for her.

At this point I was roaring at the telly - I have a William Easson from St Monance in my family tree who was lost overboard whilst fishing near Montrose in 1882.

Unfortunately, it was not her relative but my 3 x great uncle.

Think I have calmed down now.

I'm quite enjoying this series.

For once we are seeing people who've already done some research filling in extra information about their families. This gives the rest of us clues about what unusual records might help us too,

Finally got round to watching the first episode. I really liked it, maybe helped that one of the people lives along the road from me.  Was good to see records and research process explained a lot better (IMO) than in other shows.

Nor in England, seems to have timed out sadly. Only just seen this thread so maybe it'll come back sometime.

I tried to let my friend in the USA watch this but it asked her to buy a license. Is there a way to watch it over there?

Thanks

Still on BBC I player. Go to menu for Scotland then to AtoZ of programmes. Two episodes on there.

Rather think that BBC programmes are only available to those who have a licence.

The signed episodes are usually broadcast a week or so after the original programme so are often available when the original has disappeared :).
