Title: Estimated dates. Late 1800’s?
Post by: Earlsdau on Sunday 26 May 19 08:08 BST (UK)
Would appreciate some expert eye to look at this rather poor quality photo and proffer an estimate of year/decade it was taken.

I do not have the original photo, so cannot give any more details other than I know the photo was taken in Australia.

Much appreciated

While waiting for the experts to come along and date this lovely photo, I've cleaned it up a little. If you could change the title of your post and add  date please it could help.

From the lady's sleeve style, probably about 1897-99.

Hope that helps

The sleeves might be deceptive, Nell, as they came back again in circa 1905-9 with the 'pigeon breast' blouse front.

I'm not sure which but Jim will know  :)

Mmmm. I had to have a long look at this, however I don't think as late as Edwardian in spite of the pigeon-breast looking bodice bib.
The " come back" sleeve was fuller & looser than this.
So around early-mid 1890's I would suggest, her hairstyle is typical of that decade & you won't see it as late as 1905, also there appears to be a small bustle back there which had faded in popularity around 1890 although yo can still see them up to mid 1890's.
If you know who they are they are married at this time & if you don't know who they are they are well.... married at this time.

So much thanks to you all for your date-setting.

The young couple who were number one in our calculations to be depicted in the photo were married in 1893, which makes them look to be the ones. Other possibilities were years before which puts them out of the running.

Also for the cleaning up of the photo - thank you!  :)

You’re legends!
