On George's marriage certificate, does it say that John was deceased? If not, get John's death certificate and see who his parents were.

Hi Glenda.
You've put your query on the Ayrshire board but Kilsyth is Stirlingshire :) - maybe get more local help if your post is transferred over to Stirlingshire board.
Where did you get the information that George Jarvie's parents were from England?
John H Jarvie and Marion Jarvie are recorded on the 1851 Census at Kilsyth with their family , including a 5 year old George , and their place of birth is given as Kilsyth.

Thanks Loobe, brain in in Kilsyth, fingers in Ayrshire. This isn't mine, helping a friend I think I saw it on a census said John ENGLAND. Will have to check it out. Oh in a note on another page looks like it was John and Marions marriage and I have seen Born 1815 England. Will see if I can find the search. Glenda

Although John or John H Jarvis on Census says he is born Kilysth on his Son Robert Adams Bapt he is down as John Hall Jarvie.
There is this Bapt in England ;
Name: John Hall Jarvis
Birth Date: 9 Jan 1813
Baptism Date: 24 Jan 1813
Baptism Place: Lee Croft Independent,Sheffield,York,England
Father: Joseph Jarvis
Mother: Jennet
So that is where the born iin England come from I would think.

That's interesting - John Hall Jarvie and Marion Jarvie call their first son Joseph (born circa 1835/6).
And their first daughter is Janet.

Robert Hall Jarvie is born 30th September 1855 - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FQT9-LJ4
1855 is the year Statutory Birth Registration came into being. Birth certificates for this year recorded more information than the years to follow. Parents of the baby were asked to give their place of birth, too.
Have you looked at the birth registration for Robert Hall Jarvie on Scotlands People website? Might be worth it to see what place of birth John Hall Jarvie gave.

I have been spending lots today $$$ and time and at last getting somewhere... However the Robert I have is Robert Adam JARVIE not Robert Hall JARVIE on the Baptisim and in 1861 census. I've found back to 1813, and the parents marriage plus lots of syblings. So very happy but of course the whole thing really was to try and find if Andrew and George both killed in the Kaitangata Mine Disaster of 1879 were related. Thanksfor the help.....

More research needs to be done.
Tracing the boys Fathers Parentage may be the answer. They may be Brothers and therefore the 2 Men who died in the Mine Disaster are Cousins.

Apologies Glenda, the birth record I suggested you look up on Scotlands People was for Robert ADAM Jarvie ( I typed HALL in as middle name in error). That birth certificate should have the birthplaces of the parents recorded and might help establish if John Hall Jarvie was the one baptised in Sheffield.
The father of Andrew Jarvie has died before the 1851 Census. So it is going to be difficult to establish who his parents were.
