Hi everyone, I have been doing some research for my dads friend, as he knows nothing of his dads family. All he has is his dads birth certificate and a story of how he fled to England from the Irish army? but he doesn't know when that was and he died in Leicester in 2008. His birth certificate says he was born Michael Hobart 1926 castlegregory, Ireland to parents Liam hobart and bridget Ashe. I think James hobart and Catherine walshe were liam/William's parents but I can't find anything of there births, marriage or deaths. I found a few brothers and sisters of William but it looks like a few ended up in America and a few in hammersmith London, not sure if any stayed in Ireland or how many there were but it's very hard to find strong leads. Ultimately the goal is to find any living relatives possibly cousins for him to speak too.
Thank you in advance to anyone how can help or advise where to look. :)

Hello,
Just in case you haven’t got it, here is the marriage certificate for Michael’s parents. You are right with the names but note the variation in spellings. It may be useful in searching other records.

If you have access to Ancestry, there are some published trees with siblings and history you could check and compare.

There is a Naval record on Ancestry listing service.
The date of birth is shown as 1879 but there is a note that the true date is 1876.

1926 Kerry News
Catherine Clifford sued to recover a farm from William Hobart Shantallive Castlegregory.
Catherine claimed she sold the farm to William on 20 Dec 1925 for £240 plus fees with a £50 deposit.
When the time came to close the sale William didn't pay the £125 owed claiming they had agreed to a yearly payment of £12 10s.
The judge dismissed the case instructed the yearly payment should be included in the terms of the sale.
Is it the same William?

Oh wow thank you. I have no idea how to search those records, do you literally have to look through them all or is there or can you search by surname? I'm I right in thinking some names are in Gaelic?

You can search by year and month but check if it has landed at the correct page it often doesn't.
Not Gaelic, Latin.

Hi,
There was a rumor that William's brother Partrick born 1930ish Dingle, ireland drowned when he was only 10 years old is there anyway of proving if this were true?
-
1947 he was 16. Registered in Oughterard.
It's on Irish Genealogy, try finding it yourself.
There is quiet a long report of the inquest in the newspaper Mayo News.
I'll look at it later.

Thank you :)

Patrick was swimming in Lough Corrib.
Noel Huggard of the Ashford Castle Hotel, Miss Hogan and Caher O Doherty tried to save him.
Huggard identified his body as Patrick Hobart messenger boy who was training to be a waiter employed at the hotel since February.
Patrick's father was dead but his mother was still living.
It appears Patrick swam out about 10 yards turned on his back and disappeared. There were several women about who called for help, O Doherty was in a boat, rowed over and put out an oar but Patrick made no attempt to catch it.
Miss Hogan (not at inquest as in shock) also in a boat pointed out to Mr Huggard where Patrick was Huggard swam out and could see the body under the water.
Print is very bad think the name is Col Orme dived down and recovered the body which was brought ashore.
Artificial respiration was applied for 2 hours and 20 minutes, without result.
It sounds like he is buried in Cong.

Wow, thank you, I really appreciate your help. What a terrible thing to happen.
