Harriet Milner was the eldest of four daughters of Michael Milner and Harriet Kitty Thomlinson married Ottery St Mary 27/5/1770. I cant seem to find any further information on her. The others Kitty Jane, Sophia and Amelia all seemed to end up in High Wycombe Bucks. Help would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

Did the other sisters marry? Maybe Harriet is mentioned as a witness or mentioned in a will one of them left.
Or she may have died young, if you have a memorial for her parents she could be mentioned on there.
-
Probate record for Amelia mentions a niece Catherine Thomas - do you know which sister she came from?
Doesn't look like Sophia married either? Death for Sophia Milner in 1842.
-
Kitty Jane Bingley, was that her married name, doesn't name any family on her probate record so does that mean the niece Catherine Thomas must have belonged to Harriet or am I off track with that thought.
-
Thanks for your input Milliepede
Yes Kitty Jane Milner married William Bingley in 2/6/1808 at Covent Garden. William died 1828. Not been able to connect Catherine Thomas. I wondered if she was Kitty and William's daughter?
Not been able to trace marriages, births or deaths for the other sisters.
Although in the Churchyard at Wycombe there is a headstone with the inscription:
"In memory of Charlotte, Relict of the late Lewis Duval Esq of Marazion, Cornwall; who departed this life 12 February 1845; in the 82 year of her age".
below if goes on
"In memory of Michael Milner and Harriet Kitty his wife of the County of York.
Also Sophia Milner their third daughter who died on 18 Nov 1845"
So there's got to be a family connection there somewhere. and why does it say County of York? Not found a connection there yet either!
Charlotte Duval fits with the 1841 census Ive found two marriage notices to Lewis for her one with her surname as Melvill and one as Vincent both same date.
Not expecting you to solve all my comments just thinking out loud.
I appreciate any thoughts, comments info.
Many thanks

The others Kitty Jane, Sophia and Amelia all seemed to end up in High Wycombe Bucks.
Thanks to that bit of info the deaths in that area can be found.
Amelia - Jun 1858 Wycombe
Sophia - Dec 1842 Wycombe
Kitty Jane - Mar 1863 Wycombe

Can't place the niece yet. Course we don't know if she was married or not but she must have come from a sister so assuming the spinster sisters didn't have any children it has to come from a married sister.
-
So Charlotte can't be another sister because she is somewhat older than the rest so could she have been a sister to Michael Milner? What year was he born do you know?
-
Thanks again for those dates Milliepede!
Like you I can only guess that she may have been Kitty Jane & William Bingley's daughter or possibly Harriet's as we have no other info on her. Your suggestion of his sister sounds interesting.
The only info I have so far on William Bingley is his marriage date 2/6/1808 and death in 1828.
I keep thinking the gravestone that links Charlotte and Lewis Duval and Michael Milner of York and his wife and daughter Sophia - must be a link to something!
-
Yes I agree the gravestone definitely links them together somehow.
I wonder if it would be worth getting a will for one of them to see who and what is mentioned.
-
Kitty Jane Bingley is on the find a will website.
Died 21 March 1863. Will proved at Oxford by the oath of Rev Thomas Henry Paddon of High Wycombe clerk the sole executor.
Course if the others had already died they won't be mentioned but the mystery niece might be and perhaps other mystery relatives!
-
Amelia Milner is on there also - just crept in as it starts from 1858
Of Chepping Wycombe died 5 June 1858 proved by the oath of Catherine Thomas of Chepping Wycombe widow the niece and one of the executors.
So as she was from the same place (is it a small place?) they could even have been living together.
-
We could next look for a death for Catherine Thomas in Wycombe or for her on the 1851/1861 census.
She was a widow in 1858 but we don't know how old she was.
-
Couple of 1841's in Bucks
William Thomas 39 not born in Bucks
Catherine 42 not born in Bucks
Susanna 11
Mary 8
living Ludgershall
William Thomas 35 not born in Bucks
Catherine Thomas 35 not born in Bucks
living Stony Stratford
Amelia in 1851 is living on her own with
one servant Emma Howlett who is 20

I really appreciate the info you are finding. I've been scouring FMPast and all I've found is Amelia's death 2q 1858 Wycombe no details! 1851 census seems to be rubbish on FindMyPast no sign of Amelia and I've spent hrs with every conceivable variation.
Nothing on 1851 & 61 Censuses either for Catherine Thomas and only one you mentioned on 1841- most frustrating.
But you've given me more info, thanks for that.

Charlotte Duval fits with the 1841 census Ive found two marriage notices to Lewis for her one with her surname as Melvill and one as Vincent both same date.
I can't find a census for her - who was she with and where?
If the ages are right she was born c1763 so before Michael and Harriet married.
Do we know how old Michael was? Could Charlotte have been a daughter from a previous marriage?
-
Back to Catherine Thomas 8)
1891 has a CT born Wycombe - age is mixed up but possibly 68 and a widow
living with Annie Thomas 24 daughter
No forget that one she isn't a widow in 1858.
-
Thanks again for thoughts and ideas - I do need them!
Like you I struggle to find more info on her. I did find another marriage record to Lewis Duval with her name as Charlotte Melvill Vincent - which I guess sort of makes sense but using variations of her maiden name(s) I've not found her anywhere else.
I've found a couple of births for a Lewis Duval both in London area 1739 and 1774 the latter perhaps more likely and a possible will 1810 Ilfracombe Devon that might be worth following up.
Time just goes when you're searching :)
-
Where does the Vincent part of the name come from?
-
Sadly no idea yet but guess it would have been a mother's maiden name passed on as a christian name to a child or children in the family.

Harriet Kitty Milner married Dr James Layman, their daughter Catherine Layman married John Thomas and it's their daughter Catherine Thomas 1836 that is mentioned in Harriet's Will. She marries Captain Charles Frederick Kneller.
I am very interested in the Milner family albeit l am directly related to the Layman's and l have a little information with regards to them if anyone would like to share please let me know.
