Hi everyone
I've got another question regarding a death in Barnsley between and 1841 and 1851, with the burial most likely to be at St Mary's. I'm looking for Ann ELLIS, whose husband was Thomas. She died before him (he was a widower in the 1851 census). She was reportedly 60 at the 1841 census.
The two most likely candidates appear in the Jun Q 1842 or Sept Q 1847 death registrations for Ecclesfield, but I can't split them. I guess in the end I'll order both certificates, but if someone has access to the burial transcipts that would be a great help.

Have you checked the 2 deaths using GRO online to establish their ages?

Thanks Carole
I did. The GRO doesn't have a record of the 1842 death. The 1847 death is of a woman aged 67, so that would most likely be her, but I thought I'd try and rule out the earlier death conclusively before ordering the certificate.
-
GRO say that the 1842 death for Ann Ellis was aged 27.
-
Thanks Bumble-I wonder why she wasn't coming up in my search? Anyhow, that's solved it!

1847 Ann Ellis - buried 16 October 1847 at St Peter, Addingham - Abode = Addingham.
-
19 December 1842 burial is at St Peter, Gildersome. Ann's abode is Gildersome.
-
That's odd. Googlemaps tells me Addingham is miles away from Barnsley, unless there's two. ???
And if it is, how does it get to be included in Ecclesfield reg district deaths. ???
-
From FreeBMD, the one buried in Gildersome is likely to be one of 4 registered in the Leeds district in Dec qtr 1842 or Jan qtr 1843 (one as Ann Jane).
The Addingham one is likely to be the one registered in the Skipton district in Dec qtr 1847.
Neither is what you'd call close to Barnsley.
-
Sorry, the image clearly states the Parish of Addingham. :-\
-
OK, thanks, so its not that one. The one I'm after is registered in Ecclesfield reg district Sept Q 1847 (which was the district for Barnsley before 1850).
-
Sorry for causing confusion :'(
-
Ancestry only have Barnsley St Mary burials from 1859 onwards, and the BT's on FindMyPast only go to 1831.
-
And Barnsley FHS transcripts seem to stop at 1840.
-
West Yorkshire Archive Service at Wakefield have burials at St Mary - 1568-1924 and St George - 1832-1962.
-
Thanks. I'm in Australia, so not likely to be popping into Wakefield any time soon. I think I'll order the certificate for the 1847 death and see what happens.
-
The St George's burials are at Ancestry, but I couldn't see her there.
-
I'm pretty sure she would be St Mary's, that seems to be the one most things happened at.
