Title: Beatrice Seward 1903-1961, Lillian Sarah Jane Seward 1878-1967 (BRISTOL)
Post by: PeteCarpenter on Thursday 02 May 19 13:03 BST (UK)
Hello all.
I don't really know where to start!

My Great Grandmother was Beatrice Seaward b.1903 - d.1961 born in Stapleton Workhouse, Bristol
her mother was Lilian Sarah Jane Seward b.1878 - d.1967 (I can't be sure who Beatrice's father was)
Beatrice's grandparents are James Seward b.1848 and Sarah Jane Bailey b.1848

Beatrice had at least one sibling, Perceval Rocket Seward who was born illegitimately.
Lilian had 6 Siblings:
Ada Ann b.1870
Henry E b.1872
Sidney W b.1875
James G b.1880
Alfred E b.1883
Winifred M b.1890

Beatrice was Raised by Kate Beer and Ernest Sandford. Kate was a nurse and took in Beatrice from birth. (Part of me suspects that Ernest was the biological father)
After Beatrice married Clifford Ernest Carpenter, she named her son Clifford Sandford Carpenter.

Ideally I would love to hear from any descendants of the above to see if I can discover more about Beatrice and the family in general. I would love to know if she ever got in touch with the family by letter or otherwise, but suspect I'll never know.

Many thanks in advance,

Pete Carpenter

Can't help with any personal details but did Beatrice name a father when she married?

Quite natural for her to name a son after the man who brought her up.

Was Kate Beer any relation to the family?

Rocket is an unusual middle name to have!

I can find Percy on a census but not Beatrice - did she use the name Sandford?

There is this one Millie which shows Kate Sandford as widowed and Beatrice Seward living with a Beer family

Ernest Sandford and Kate Beer married in 1901 a couple of years before Beatrice was born so I wouldn't have thought he was the father.

Her mother was still alive and with Percy and her own family.

The 1901 lists Kate as a Housemaid Domestic in a hospital, she was not nursing on the next census either
