Title: Jane Stotters
Post by: peterg42 on Tuesday 30 April 19 10:13 BST (UK)
I have a record of Henry Mossop (my Great Grandfather x 2) marrying Jane Stotters in Bootle Cumberland in 1853. I cannot find any record of Jane's birth, in England or Scotland. Nor can I find her in 1841 or 1851 census. Is it possible that she was adopted and born with a different name?
Can anybody help please?

Is she the one born Drigg, Cumberland in the censuses?

There is a Statters family at 1841 156/4/3 but no Jane.
Is there a father’s name on the marriage certificate?

Heywood

Did they have children?

If so you could look up their birth registrations just to double check her maiden/birth name.

If it is the Drigg Jane then son Isaac born 1860 has mothers maiden name Sharp
As does Elizabeth born 1859 and Willie born 1856 and Mary Ann born 1853.

Braithwaite Statter (one of the previously mentioned family) has a wife Jane  :-\

The 1853 marriage shows wife as either Jane Stotters or Jane Sharp - from birth reg's of children it was clearly Jane Sharp and not Jane Stotters.

I noticed her when searching for Jane b Drigg.

She is in 1841 and 1851 - easily found so you will be able to spot her, Peter, and the marriage certificate will give you the evidence.  :)

I think Jane Sharp born 1830 in Cockermouth looks most likely as my grandmother
(Margaret Eleanor Clint) was also born in Cockermouth.  I shall try to follow that up.

Thank you for your help.
