I've never had any luck finding my great aunt Mary Ellen Jackson. She was born in Hulme Manchester on 15th June 1863 she was registered as Mary Ellen Jackson (first name) Rogers (surname). Her father was Edward Jackson, her siblings called themselves Jackson in later life! The last info I have is the 1871 census, after that zilch! I have spent hundreds on birth, death and marriage certificates to no avail.
Can anyone suggest where I should look now?
Thank you
Paul

The 1871 census....can you identify this family please....names, ages in the household.......address.
Where does Mary Ellen appear in the family..........birth order?
"...her siblings called themselves Jackson in later life!" What family name did they have at birth?
Have you accounted for her parents and siblings, and Mary Ellen is the only one left to find?

It helps if you post a link or further details of the census.
I couldn't quite work out the Rogers/Jackson - but that’s just me, maybe :)

If you have ‘spent hundreds in birth, death and marriage certificates’, it is difficult to help as we might be repeating information you have already discarded.
Free BMD Chorlton
Mary Ellen Rogers
2 marriages in 1881
1 marriage for in 1890
Mary Ellen Jackson
Marriage 1884
Marriage 1887
Did you check these?
-
Heywood
checked those marriages on Lan-opc - you can rule out 1881 marriages - no Edward as father
1884 and 1887 and 1890 are not on Lan-opc :)

Thanks Garstonite.
I have seen parish records for one, I think which isn’t her either.
It would be good to know where Paul has searched.

not sure if I am reading it right - but Mary Ellen Jackson Rogers - MMN Rogers - do we take it ALL the children were Baptised Rogers - but were known as Jackson ?? maybe Edward Jackson was married and couldn't get divorced ?? need more info ???

Hello all,
thank you for your responses but to no avail.
I have traced everybody (except Mary Ellen) in this/my family to the modern day.
Some of the info posted here is correct some isn't and we are going over the same well worn road.
So rather than doing that can some one suggest any alternative, paid or not, any left-field area or anybody who can tell me how to find a person who, it seems, is not registered anywhere. (I will consider clairvoyance!)
Otherwise I should delete this post to save the time of all you good people.
Thank you all very much
Paul
ps Mary Ellen's nephew Arthur (my grandfather) was involved with his siblings to get them into an orphanage (1911). In the paperwork he needed to list next of kin. He entered a list but there was no mention of Mary Ellen.

Hello all you good people,
after many years of searching I've found my great aunt Mary Ellen Jackson Rogers. She was diguised as Ellen Rogers when she married Edward Lockett in 1893. I know it's her for sure because witnesses on her MC are her sister Elizabeth Ann Wilson and her bro-in-law James Wilson. Also mentioned is her father Edward Jackson, Butcher, late of Manchester and Tideswell. Can't get more confirmed than that.
Hint : I came to research the Locketts because they were witnesses to the (second) marriage of Elizabeth Ann to Alfred Rutherford. So don't ignore anyone, witnesses to marriages, informants on death certs or neighbours on a census page.
Thank you one and all for all the help I've been given on these pages.

great news Paul - glad you found her :)
