Are you saying that he was in the army when he married?

Findmypast have an army attestation for him. He signed up when he was 17 years and two months old in 1892. Regimental number 3371
If you don't have a sub to FindMyPast you local library may have it or you could sign up for the free 2 week trial. Just remember to to cancel a couple of days before it ends or you will be charged a full subscription.

Thanks for the help with this.
Christopher was still living in Manchester where he was Born at 17, so I assume thats where he signed up. By 1897 he is in Chatham Getting Married.
Im thinking that the army sent him to Chatham...maybe where he met his wife. If this is the case things my end fall into place.
Thank you for your help I will certainly take these details to my library :)

Do you have his marriage certifcate? This will show his occupation at time of marriage.
I can't give you all the details of his record because FindMyPast have their rules. The service record is only 3 pages and on the first page in big blue letters is stamped "Purchased"
This usually means that a discharge from service was payed for. Somebody payed for him to be discharged not very long after he signed up.
