Once again, I am asking for help in looking up a marriage in NZ. I have come across a man who I beleive is my grandfather, getting married in NZ in 1936, to a Violet Gertrude Hooper.
How can I see the details of this marriage? His name is Charles Howard Johnson, date of birth January 10, 1885. Thank you!

I see no notice of the marriage in Paperspast.
So...I think you are going to have to buy the printout. Which has more information than the certificate and costs less.

A Charles Howard Johnson appears on a list of NZers who resisted the First World War, Pg 4 - Military Defaulters List 1919.

Thanks to all who replied, nothing would surprise me about this man.....he was born in England, married my grandmother in 1916, had a couple of children, then disappeared off the face of the earth!
I traced him to Australia, and, with the help of Rootschat (and Ancestry) traced another marriage which was bigamous. I traced a son who is my uncle and we are in touch often.
Now, while idly glancing through the Police Gazette, there he is , right about 1938 where I have a gap in my records....and it looks as if there is another bigamous marriage.
He follows a pattern. He is quite a character. My mother is 100 later this year and we are putting together a book about his life, but I will need to get a copy of the marriage to Violet to make sure it is him. Thank you all!

Valgenie,
I have sent you a PM.
Further to reply #5 in the NZ WW1 Soldiers List is
Charles Howard Johnson, Regimental No 131856, C/- P Elson (Harry Percival Elson), Waterloo Road, Johnsonville, occupation Steward, Class "C".
Violet Gertrude Johnson appears in electoral rolls 1938 - 1954 in Wellington and 1957 - 1972 in Lyttelton.
Must dash work calls!

Am quite sure it was CHJ on the first list of objectors in NZ. Remarkably, he later managed to enlist in Australian Army of WW1 and got himself back to the UK where he deserted and found his way back to his first and legal wife. Mother was born in 1919. The Waterloo road address was used often. He then then joined the British Navy in late 1918. He probably was not the other Charles Johnson with the Prices because he always used that Howard middle name and the dates are not correct.
I will keep looking for the way to access the marriage record to Violet.
Thank you Wendy and everyone. My family and Uncle Peter thank you for your interest!

In NZ you need to purchase either a certificate or a "printout" which is what is recommended by most Genies
Printout - post 1874 $25.00 A copy of the information from the registration, and usually used for research purposes. It is either handwritten or typed
https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/search/search?path=%2FqueryEntry.m%3Ftype%3Dmarriages
You can purchase it online and have it emailed to you
