Title: Accessing old newspapers
Post by: Annie65115 on Thursday 04 April 19 14:13 BST (UK)
How do people prefer to access old newspapers online?

I used to have a subscription for the online newspaper archive of the British Library. That expired and I tried accessing via FindMyPast instead but found the search quality wasn't as good, and the BL gave you the page with the relevant article highlighted, whereas with FindMyPast you had to wade through the entire page to find the relevant bit.

This was a few years ago and I have no relevant sub now. I want to get access again and wondered, has anything changed? As an addon it's cheaper with a FindMyPast sub (which I have as a basic anyway) but has the differential in quality been improved?

I do my searching on British Newspaper Archives where I no longer subscribe. Then having found probable articles I move over to Findmypast where I do have a subscription to look at the image.

Findmypast do highlight the section it will appear white compared to the rest of the paper which appears grey. I have found no problem using this on their site including the search criteria.
