The surname definitely looks like Mateer but the forename seems to end in “osh”?

Welcome to rootschat from me too   :)

The person filling in the form seems to have difficulty with first names.

ok no worries - thanks!! the 1911 census doesnt make alot of sense to me in general to be fair lol. i cant find any other record for a joseph mateer anywhere. no birth record etc, only on other trees in ancestry. i have also come across a john on other trees born 2 years after joseph but again no records

Could the surname be a version of McTeer, which is a real name?

As the children are Eliza's grandchildren it's possible not all of them are Edwards.
Do you know any of Edward's siblings.
A Sarah Mateer had a male child in March 1909.

Was Edward's wife Catherine Mulholland, late Gillespie?

i dont know any of edwards siblings as it goes. from my understanding joseph was born 1910 and there is also a john mateer born in 1912 popping up on other trees but again no records.

yes edwards wife was catherine mulholland/gillespie.

but catherine died before joseph was born and have been unable to find any record for his birth whatsover. only record is on 1911 census

Is the 19 year old Edward in 1911 from his father's first marriage? Both Edward and Catherine were widowed at the time they married.

I see Edward's father was Frances and his mother from the Census is Elizabeth so do you know if they had other children?

This is the Unknown to Sarah Mateer, granted he would have been just gone 2 by 1911 Census.

I think i must be going mad because i cannot see sarah on document attached lol.

edward has 2 siblings that i have come across so far:

Hugh (born 1871)
francis (b: 1869 d:1939)

i wondered myself where 19 edward come from as he is listed as son of elizabeth also.

also on various trees john and joseph have been listed with mother as annie o’rielly or annie molyneaux. (just noticed that when looking back through trees again)

I think the grand added by the enumerator refers to Edward even though it's mostly on Frank's line.
