Title: John Weild - has anyone come across him?

Hello

I've found from the Scots online site my ggggg grandfather - John Weild.  A copy of the birth details for his daughter Agnes are posted below.

I cannot find any other Weilds around that time, I've no dea if she was an only child.  There is no mention of the mother of Agnes.  The only other John Weild I have come across was from Annan and had shares in a ship in 1849 which was shipwrecked off the coast of Barbados not long after.  There is no record of him on the Dumfries 1851 census. 

Can anyone please advise where I should look next.

You could may try looking for a marriage/death of any of the above on the www.familysearch.org site although not all information has been recorded. There were a few other Weild's showing in Dornock at that time from the BIVRI Index. I live along the road from Dornock and quite often go to the library at Annan, where they have burial records for the local cemeteries and also the 1841 census. I can have a look for you the next time I'm there, which could be next week - when the kids are back at school.

Thanks for taking the time to look up my posting and to reply.  Unfortunately Agnes Weild doesn't apprear amongst the children of John.  I have her birth date as 1795..but not amongst the other Weilds listed.

Your generous offer to look up at your local library is grately appreciated but only look up if you have the time, I do not wish to put you out in anyway.  I know that Agnes married William Blenkinsop 4th June 1814 in Annan but I cannot find her on any later census forms.  It is possible that she stayed in the area as her son James married someone from Roxburgh and James eventually moved to Liverpool and finally Surrey.

If I find out anything further, I will post here.

Agnes Weild is also showing on the BIVRI records - I just didn't post the info as you seemed to have it already.
Next time I'm in the library I'll have a look at the headstone inscriptions - see if I can pick up any Weilds/Blenkinsop.
I believe there are still Blenkinsop's in the area.

Hi Caroline,
I collect old letters and one of my recent acquisitions is a letter by John Weild to his brother David Weild dated October 1808. In his letter he says that he is going out to the West Indies with a quantity of goods to sell, possibly to the Bahamas or to the Virgin Islands. But the letter contains little genealogical information.

Hi Cliff,

John and David are distant relatives of mine, with David's daughter, Jane, marrying a distant past cousin of mine.

I understand John died on the island of St Bartholomew in the West Indies in 1809. 

I would be interested in obtaining a copy of the letter if possible (or even a transcript) in order to get some more understanding of my past.

Just researching my husbands family and have come across Esther Weild and was married to a Christopher Scott. Is this the same person please?
