The above, is seen returning from Australia in 1923, but I cannot find a journey out. He married when he returned, and then I believe he returned to Australia but again, have no evidence of this. Any help from across the pond would be much appreciated.
-
Which censuses have you found him in, in England, to see if it helps with dates?
-
Still in Northam in 1901, not with family in 1911
1901 - RG13/2163 f72 p17
-
Him, for other names:
William George Wills Hearn
Died age 69 in Western Australia in 1955
Registered at East Coolgardie, Western Australia
-
He returned to Fremantle in 7 Feb 1925 on Oronsay. from Cross Street, Northam
There is a Wm Hearn occ Miner going to Fremantle 3 Feb 1911 on the Otway - no age or other information
-
Thanks all, I believe he was a pianoforte person. I am pretty certain he died in Australia, so I am assuming that there is possibly a death record there. G stands for George btw, and the W, I believe is Wills. Its a little unclear, a couple of versions on the W.

Thank you Chempat.
-
Thank you Rose. Was there possibly a Mary travelling with him. He married a Mary Smale, a little before this.
-
Thanks all, I believe he was a pianoforte person.
When he returned in 1925 as W G H Hearn he was described as a Farmer - that was the record with the Northam address
Which record are you expecting his wife to be with him on
-
Thank you Rosie. Love your dog.
-
Marriage was Jun 1924 Bideford so am guessing the expected record with wife Mary would be the one with him returning to Australia in 1925?
Unless she remained in England.
-
Thank you. Sadly can only see him going to Australia, can find no birth of child in UK, and his death is in Australia.
-
What is Mary's information from the marriage certificate?
-
No marriage certificate. Taken from records. And cannot find either of them on the 1939 register.
-
How do you know that you cannot find her if you do not know her age - or have you got that information?
-
Good point! I cant find her with him. And I am guessing at a date of birth and so far have come up with nothing. But I thought the information may help across the pond, if anyone did come up with any information. Thanks for your help.
-
I am not sure this is the information you are seeking or not. ::)
The Western Australia Electoral Roll has the following.
1936 and 1937
HEARN, William George Wills. A labourer.
At Mt Palmer via Yellowdine
HEARN Mary Ann
At Same address .
If this is she, this may be her death.
HEARN Mary A
Female
At Yilgarn
Reg 24 Year 1940
William continues registration in the general area, but no others with him to 1954.

30 March 1929 on the Orsova - London to Fremantle
Mrs M Hearn - Cross Street, Northam, North Devon Housewife age 48
-
I am also not sure whether you are aware of a person travelling with Mrs HEARN ( see above)
Relationships of one passenger to another are not described on passenger lists, but at aged 48 it is possible Mary was the mother of this girl.
SMALE, Miss B.
Address Cross Street , Northam, North Devon
Occ. Nil.
Destination Fremantle WA

If it was a child of the marriage though the surname of the girl would be Hearn wouldn't it?
Do we know the age of Miss B Smale? **
** I see it now - born 1916 which ties in with this birth
Mar 1916 Bideford 5b 702

Sue, Thank you so much. I will check to see now if she was married before. Everything really helpful, and I very much appreciate it.
-
milliepede has shown the birth registration
Mar 1916 Bideford 5b 702
Barbara Smale MMN Smale
MMN stands for Mother's Maiden Name.
Maiden is the same as nee or birth surname, so mother was born SMALE not married to a SMALE.
Therefore it seems likely Barbara was ex-nuptial.
The information regarding her father's name being William Edward SMALE could have come from anywhere including a family story that "saves face"
