hi on the 1911 census one of my relatives has PW c694/8853 written inthe last column. Does anyone know what that means please.

If it is the 1939, PWC = Post war credits

I had to look them up. I remembered them being spoken about when I was a girl!
'Post War Credit certificates were issued during the Second World War as recognition for the higher taxes paid by the public to support the war effort. The additional tax plus 38% interest was repaid by 1973 to most of those who had retained their certificates. Redeemed certificates were normally marked as cancelled

My mother used to talk about her post-war credits - I don't think she ever got much back!
