I have been looking at this census for many years and still cant fathom out the place of birth for lines 1 and 3 . I can read denbighshire as the county on both but Line 1 has been transcribed as Banwold and line 3 as LLora . I think line 3 is probably Llay with the old spelling of Llai or possibly Lloc but this is in flintshire.
Many thanks in advance
Alison

Is it Hope?
**edit Oh I beg your pardon, I looked at the wrong line.

The only thing I can think of for #3 is Lloran, and somehow they missed writing the last letter, n. ???
Could you post the reference for that census page so we can see more letters for comparison please?

thank you

Thanks for the link..... a quick look shows the writer does indeed drop last letters; there are multiple pages where the people are born in Hop, Flint, instead of Hope. ::)
What I am trying to find is a matching capital B, as the few I have seen don't match at all. Could it be a very loopy C in the indexed Banwold?

It could be a c
I have been trying to look for relevant marriages between John Roberts and Mary Jones in north wales and have one from Clocaenog in the relevant time frame .... would Clocaenog fit that scrawl do you think?

would Clocaenog fit that scrawl do you think?
I don't think so.... he is pretty consistent with making his small L's full height.

Here's a small sampling of letters in case it helps anyone with better eyes than me.
