Title: Looking for Translation
Post by: bleckie on Saturday 16 March 19 13:34 GMT (UK)
Hi All
Getting back to family history after a gap. I am looking for info on the records below I am looking at a Patrick McEwan can anyone decipher the records below. The one I am leaning towards is the first one, as this family has used the Scottish naming pattern up to modern times which would make fathers name Patrick (Peter) and mothers name Catherine.

MCEWIN VAIN PATRIK CATRIEN NIKEWIN TAN 12/06/1655

MCEWINTAN PATRIK ELSPET NIKEANVAILLICH/ 23/09/1650

Many Thanks
Yours Aye

The Nik in the female name is "daughter of" as Mc is "son of".

How about,  Patrick (Peter) son of Ewan Ban (fair) & Catherine daughter of Ewan Tan (slender?)

Patrick son of Ewan Tan? & Elspet daughter of Ean Vaillich?

Skoosh.

Thank You both.
Doesn't help much but as now back beyond when surnames were common no way to prove if it is who I am looking for as the names appear in this family up to modern times.

Once Again
Thank You
