Thomas Allan 1809-1876 was a wealthy iron founder who was born in Falkirk and married Janet Shaw in 1834. They lived at Garroch/Garrioch Hall in Glasgow and their children were:
Agnes Allan b1838 who married the Rev Shanks of Maryhill Kirk
Thomas Allan b1843 who married 1) Eliza Campbell & 2)Isabella Forbes
Betsey Allan b1845
James Allan b1852
David Allan b1855
I would be very grateful for any information about this family.

Thank you very much for all of this information, it is very useful.
I would be interested to know whether anyone is aware of any other descendants.

Hi, I am a great great great granddaughter of Thomas Allan from Garrioch Hall.
My great great grandfather was James Allan (born 1853) who married Elizabeth Paterson (born 1860). They had two daughters, Elizabeth Paterson Allan (born 1879) and Marguerite Paterson Allan (1888- 1965). Marguerite married James B. Laing Smith (1884-1951) born in Georgetown, British Guiana. They had two children, James Allan Smith (1913-1943) and Bethea Elizabeth Smith (1914-1988). James Allan Smith was shot over Germany when fighting in W. W. II and Bethea Elizabeth Smith married Adam Lehtonen from Finland both lived and died in the Dominican Republic. They had three daughters one who is my mother, Rita Amanda Lehtonen Smith.
Recently I've been trying to trace my ancestors and came up with Thomas Allan from Garrioch Hall. unfortunately I don't have pictures of the house. Hope some of this is useful.

Hi Alexandra,
Are you sure that you have the right James Allan?
"My" James Allan was christened at Barony in 1852 and died at Garrioch Hall in 1859.
According to the 1901 census "your" James Allan was born at Glassford.
