Title: Anne Jane Brooks
Post by: lisingreece on Monday 25 February 19 17:51 GMT (UK)
I am searching info on above and all I have on her is her marriage to Thomas Henry Pace in 1919 St Luke West Norwood. In it a Samuel Brooks is her father and is a coachman. She dies in 1961 and seems was born in 1891.
Samuel Brooks another Sam Brooks maybe or the same one marries in 1889 Emma Mary Barker and they have 3 children 2 boys and a girl, the little girl Emma Violet dies. This is recorded in the 1911, 3 children 2 alive 1 dead. So please can someone help me figure where Anna Jane fits in this family if at all. I also have found an Emma Brooks in the workhouse for 3 weeks in 1909. I cannot find a birth for Anne Jane brooks with a Samuel as a father in the London area.
Quite complicated. I'd be grateful for help
thank you
Lis

There is this Samuel a coachman Family in 1911

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XW4Z-RZ4

It appears, although I’ve only looked at one child, that Alice was née CURTIS.
However the marriage in Frome might be to Alice Mary PAYNE.
If so Ann Jane might be a PAYNE. (Or a CURTIS)

Thank you too Giggsy, this looks good, I'll check it out.

I presumed that both Samuel Brooks's were the same man.

Here's hoping it's finally sorted
thanks

Cannot find the birth record yet but this might help?

1939 – 27 St Louis Rd. Lambeth
Thomas H Pace 1/1/1884 – Bus Driver (I guess Thomas had been married before)
Anne J Pace 14/4/1892
Arthur J Pace 13/12/13 -  Carpenter & Joiner

yes ColC, that's exactly where I am at, I cannot find her birth either.

Sid Pace was her only son and is with us no longer.

I am struggling with Anne Jane Brooks born in Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lancs. The trouble is so far none of these match with her stated birth date on her death cert. The Leicester A J Brooks matches beautifully with a father Samuel as a coachman.

Oh dear, I keep at it and am grateful for your help
Thanks

Who registered her death Lis? If it was someone who didn't know her very well they may have made it up!

Giggsy I don't have her death cert the index says abt 1892 so that could have been wrong.

But now I have found a Jane brooks d/Samuel from Kent so am following this through.

This is not my family so won't be buying a death cert. My tree looks such a mess now a lot of sorting is needed!!!
thank you

Lis I have not managed to find an Anne Jane anywhere but I just wonder if this might be worth considering?

Jane Brooks Fulham Q2/1892 - 1a/ 259

By the way are you sure about the death in 1961?

Colin, I am now following up the Jane, not Anne Jane Brook d/Samuel Brook a gardener.

I am happy with the death date, as the family are still in touch with me so they know the date.

Just beginning to find this family on the census.

Still lots to do

Thanks

I have now found her as Annie J Pace in the '39 and her dob is 14/4/1892, which Colin seems to tie up with the Fulham record you found.

This could be her, born in Ireland, registered in Tralee
Born 4.30 pm, 14 April 1891
Anne Jane
father Samuel Brooks
mother Margaret Jane Brooks, formerly McCracken
father a Servant

She was a twin, sister Margaret (first entry) was born at 4 pm.
Place of birth for them looks like Skrilough?

In that 1911 census, Alice Brooks was 9, as was Lizzie. Pity it is so faint.
Registration of Alice, born 21 January 1902. No. 398 in register
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1902/01917/1743131.pdf

Expecting a twin sister, Elizabeth, to be number 397, instead we get Margaret!
