I known this is deviating from the usual family history questions . I wonder if any of the older users of this site can remember the name of a model railway and hobby shop located on church gate Leicester near the city centre. It was situated on the left side of the street walking towards the clock tower. I remember it from the late 1950 s .I owned a Hornby double o train set at the time and I bought quite a few accessories from them. Thanks in advance

Have you tried the Leicester trade directories

Take a look at Cary Hill's post who remembers Apex Craft in Churchgate, Leicester, unfortunately no era mentioned.

OH yes I do remember the shop
wasnt it near Domino's? No just re-checked my head with the map and that was on High St... so long since I walked those streets..
It is coming back to me now ... my favourite pub was down Churchgate.. uhm... on the right down a little alleyway.... and of course the name of that has gone..
Ah found the pub - The Fish and Quart - brilliant place in my day long time ago

I remember Apex. I used to pass it on the way home from school when heading to the bus station and usually stopped for a look.
If I remember correctly it moved to Belgrave Gate and visited it with my son in the early 1980s, shortly before it closed.

If you go on Facebook, there is a history of Leicester and Leicestershire in images. Someone on there might be able to help.
By the 1980s, Apex models were on Charles street at the ABC roundabout end

That's right, it was Charles street, near the junction with Belgrave Gate. It was new ownership then and the proprietor was very grumpy.
