I wonder if anyone is linked to a widow Mary Mckenna who died in 1918, Handsworth, Birmingham. I have her will and she mentions five children of whom two sons by name Henry James Mckenna born 1884 who was a Roman Catholic Priest and buried in Halifax 1940 and John Joseph Mckenna born 1886 who I have information on for WW1 but not the rest of her family. Mary Mckenna was living at 8 Endwood Court Road, Handsworth Wood, Birmingham at the time of her death in 1918 (born c 1848). I have her will but to date have been unable to get any further back on Mary. Possible link to a Chrissie Mckenna with her son John on the Electoral registers in the 1830's Duchess Rd, but I cannot find a marriage for them. Would really like to find Mary on the Census but not making very good progress, can anyone help or advise please? I think originally she hailed from Ireland as her Will was registered in Ireland as well.

Where was the will registered in Ireland?
Have you tried Irish records?
-
Mary’s death registration below. Do you know where the children were born?

Henry looks to be born 1879/80 According to his death record and 1939.

Will was proved in Birmingham Registry just listed as National Archives Ireland http://www.willcalendars.nationalarchives.ie/search/cwa/details.jsp?id=1700519330
I do not know where the children were born.
-
Does John Joseph’s record give his birthplace?
Or residence?
-
His war record give his mothers address and also next of kin his brother Revd H J Mckenna in Halifax. Brother died in 1940 he was interred at Stoney Royd Cemetery, Halifax Death records states Aged 60 years. He was a priest at St Bernards for 8years.
-
Was Mary living at the same address as her probate record?
What date was the War Record?
-
Yes Mary was living at the address given on her will.
-
Thanks annettej.
The family weren't there in 1911 so that narrows it. Perhaps later electoral rolls would help.
-
Just noted that Mary died in 1918 so maybe the house was disposed of then.
-
I think after the war and the will was registered etc. the son purchased property in Aston as I have 2 addresses later on one at Duchess Road and nearby. But trying to find the family on the census has not been an easy task. Not very good on War records and the newspapers do not mention much about his brother when he died.

I think this may be the family
Parents James and Mary McKenna maiden name McCormick Letterkenny
James Henry 1st October 1879 (check 1939 entry)

It is worth considering these but the children don’t quite match the number you said.
-
Thank you, strange as I have viewed these before but was not sure they were a match.
-
Nor am I but the two you have named have the same birthdates.
-
Well will keep working at it thank you for your help
-
Did John Joseph marry?
-
Not been able to find marriage for him. But he is listed on the electoral roll in the 1930,s with a Christina/Chrissie,
-
In your first post, you think Chrissie and ‘her son’ John ???
Is that right?
-
John is not her son, only her partners son. From previous relationship
-
Based on the Irish birth, here is a strong possibility for John Joseph in 1911
