Hi there,
I've found the following details via census records, but I'm struggling to identify the birth record to order the birth certificate for Issac Raby (I have his marriage cert).
Isaac Raby born 1845 in Over, Cambridgeshire
Father: John Raby
Mother: Mary (possibly Fletcher)
I believe Isaac was a twin as his Sister Rebecca was also born the same year.
Other siblings if it helps:
Martha - 1834
Sarah - 1840
Thomas - 1842
Rebecca - 1845
Mary Ann - 1851
Jane - 1853
I can see the birth volume/pages for a number of Isaac's siblings, just his evades me at present.
Any help would be very appreciated.
Kind regards,
Francesca.

Failure to register a birth only became a fineable offence in 1874. Many births prior to that date went unregistered. There was a small charge for registering a birth - a few old pence. However - that was a lot of money in those days so many parents chose to put food on the table rather than buy a "piece of paper".
It's not unusual to find birth registrations for some of the children in the same family and not for others

This might seem a bit far fetched but... there are these two Raby children with the same reference umbers and Mother’s maiden name...

I've found the date of his baptism in Over parish records but all it says is 2nd March 1845-Raby Isaac
s of John and Mary. Rebecca Raby was baptised the same day as was an elder brother Thomas aged 3.
There is no record of his birth in the CAMDEX index of births, deaths and marriages.

Thank you for this, much appreciated.
What's the reference of the baptism? I'm looking on ancestry and can't find that, they've become very good for parish records. Does it say Rebecca has the same date of birth?

It’s on Family Search. No dates of birth, just the date of baptism

That is interesting! Perhaps twins that didn't make it as they're not listed anywhere else. The name Esther appears a few times with this family. So far I've found that George and Martha (Isaac's siblings) both go on to have a daughter called Esther. And they're the first 2 siblings that I've researched.

Perfect, thank you.

My thinking was that maybe Isaac and rebecca were registered as George and Esther, but then the parents changed their minds!
Just a theory but I don’t see them subsequently..so far anyway.

I would agree that this is very likely. There are no apparent deaths registered for George & Esther

Very interesting and likely theory! I'll get a certificate.
Thank you so much everyone for all your help!

I have the parish records on fiche but they don't give any more details. Sometimes they will give date of birth or if they are twins but not this time.
If the children were born in St Ives they might have been registered in Huntingdonshire as it was a separate county then .
