Title: Help in deciphering Green Ink annotatins in 1939 Register
Post by: Socialite2018 on Monday 04 February 19 12:58 GMT (UK)
  I have the following information :

"Registered living in Dagenham, Essex, Harriet L Jones dob 19 Oct 1916  living with her husband George R W Jones dob 8 Oct 1908, French polisher.

Written in green ink above/next to Harriet's entry:  Brown nee Murray (I think).  In the address column in green is written:  CR 283LNC 29 9 85.

Written in black ink (v faded) 19 10 ?, underneath 22449 and possibly a 1 or a 7."

Please can someone tell me what the green ink and faded black markings mean?  Many thanks.

Green annotations would normally include a 3 letter area code -where the adjustment was made and a date

Sorry I got distracted  ::)

CR283 must be an amendment code used by the NHS, it seems to appear against entries where surnames have been changed by marriage.  Did Harriet marry a Brown in 1962.  It is possible that it would have been picked up when she attended a doctor or hospital in 1985.

There appears to be another area code in the faded black ink but I am not allowed to disclose what that information is (sorry)

Thank you/diolch.  Harriet's husband did not die until June 1980 but I suppose she could have divorced and married a Mr Brown in 1962.  I thought maybe she married a Mr Brown in 1985.  The interesting thing is there are two death records, identical, except one is for Harriet L Brown and the other for Harriet L Jones:
Registration Date:   May 2004
Registration district:   Dacorum
Inferred County:   Hertfordshire

Dob for both Harriet's the same!  I feel more research needed.

I can't see anything on the image which would hint at 1962, just the 1985 mentioned.

There is a marriage in 1985 at Barking & Dagenham of a Harriet L Jones to a Charles W Brown.

There's also a death in 1990, again at Barking & Dagenham, of a Charles Brown of about the right age. It may be that many people, including the informant, still knew her as Jones.

Yes I have seen that marriage listed officially.  I have emailed other family members to see if they remember/know anything about a second marriage before I consider ordering a certificate or two.  I do though (thanks to your pointers) now understand what the annotations can/do mean.
