Title: Joseph Baylis - Seeking Death/Burial date in Ludgershall Bucks, 1833-1836 ish?
Post by: PTRACER on Saturday 26 January 19 16:12 GMT (UK)
He was born in Somerton in 1800. He married in St. Michael Oxon in 1819. So I'm presuming he died or was buried in one of these two places. But he could have died in Ludgershall, Buckinghamshire too.

Their last child was born in 1833 and then his wife remarried in 1839. Since he's not on the BMD, I assume it happened in 1833-6

I can't otherwise find any records on him. Can anyone help? :)

There's one in 1829 Somerton age 28 but that's too early if he was still having children in 1833  :-\

I was just looking at the 1832 baptism, it does not mention a father just Harriet
William Wallington Bayless
Christening Date 16 Sep 1832

I suspect that the 1829 burial at Somerton could be him.  The 1828 Ludgershall baptism names him and Harriet.  Were there any other children between Joseph bapt 9 Mar 1828 and William in 1832

No there wasn't. William Wallington Bayless though...Do you think that could be an illegitimate child?

There were Wallingtons living in the village. With a population of only 500 what are the chances?

I suspect William could be illegitimate, you would probably need to see the actual register entry.

I looked up this entry on Ancestry. Found the original burial record. Buried on 2nd Jan 1829 in Somerton. 'Abode' is listed as Ludgershall. This is solved! Thank you!
