So, what’s her mother’s maiden name?  ???

The widow’s name and mmn don’t look similar, to me.

Been asking myself for years McLeish Or McAleese. So I just went with B.D.M. certs. I downloaded the death cert for Margaret McLeish and I cannot make out her parents surnames. More help needed see attac.

Just came across an anc tree that links to the 1891 Scotland census for David McLeese - has him
born 1835 Dervock, Antrim, Northern Ireland. Married to a Catherine Pattison - 8 March 1853 Loughguile, Ant, Ireland. Difference children.  One was called Mary but born 1860 -  one of those ancestry trees which looks questionable.  ???

Probably not linked ...............the name could be easily mistranscribed ............ :-\

Unusual surname - not many of that name - did come across - Margaret Jane Mcinergany - 30 Dec 1864 - Old Monkland,Lanark,Scotland - mother Margaret Jane Mcinergany.

and a death of Margaret Mcinergany - 1865 - 652/1 140 Old Monkland (Western)

I see there's a McNairney family living in Old Monkland in 1861 - no daughter Margaret though.

When your head gets some feeling back.... ::)

Have you thought to check the son (shown as brother in law in the Kelly household for 1891) David's birth cert? Might give you a further check on mother Margaret's maiden name:

David MCALEESE
1882
ref 651/2 226
New Monkland Landward

On the 1881 census, there also shows another daughter Marion:

David McLesh 48
Margaret McLesh 40
Mary McLesh 12 b Uphall
Marion McLesh 7 b. New Monkland
John Mc Mearney 16 lodger coal miner b. Ireland
Anthony Cann 44 lodger b. Ireland

Address: No 18 Meadowfield, New Monkland

Haven't been able to find Marion's birth entry so far.

Marion is shown as Maria on her birth reg. From the FS index:

Maria Mcileese
12 Jan 1874 - NEW MONKLAND
Father's Name    David Mcileese
Mother's Name    Margaret Mcinergan

There is also Sarah:

Sarah Mcileese
24 Nov 1872 - NEW MONKLAND
Father's Name    David Mcileese
Mother's Name    Margaret Mcinairn

You can see how fluid Margaret's maiden name was in terms of its spelling. Always hard when they are like this.

New but tired by this time today!

The family were Roman Catholic, Kenny?

Maria's (marion) baptism shows in the RC registers as:

Maria MCILEESE
Parents DAVID MCILEESE/MARGARET MCILEESE
12/1/1874
9/2/1874
Airdrie, St Margaret's

Not sure this parish register entry will tell you something new though.
