If that is the correct marriage - 9 December 1912 - St Simon, Leeds
Harry Spoors - 22, bachelor, Waiter. No father named.
Jane Ann Ford - 24, spinster. Father: Joseph Henry - Weaver.
Nellie Ford was one of the witnesses.

Other war records confirm that this was Harry Spoors, born Leeds.

Thank you for all the information, if Harry was adopted is there any way to find who his father was?

Harry Spoors born 10 October 1890 was baptised 7 June 1893 at St Jude’s, Leeds.
Son of Sarah Spoors (no occupation stated). Abode: 1 Holm Place.
He was baptised together with Ann Elizabeth Turpin born 25 June 1892, daughter of James (a waterman) & Mary Ellen, also of 1 Holm Place.

The couple who took him in were Albert Hick and Ellen née Smith (marr Mar qtr 1888 Leeds). They only had one child of their own, so may have informally adopted Harry Spoors and another boy, John Aldred Bywater, from the workhouse or by other means. Although the boys are described as “adopted” in the 1901 census, formal statutory adoption (as we know it) was not introduced until 1927.
1901: RG13/4242/82/4.
(A free index search suggests both Harry & John were still with the Hicks 10 yrs later).

Do not like this one, as Sarah was registered as Sarah Ann Spoors and is with parents in London in 1881
Census ref RG11/341/118/18
And married a Thomas Williams 1887 Holborn.
