Does anyone know of a place name of Sholt in Invernesshire??
I have a military pension record for Jonathan McInnes dated 1815 which states he is from the town of what looks like Sholt in Inverness, but I can't it anywhere.

Could he have meant Shot as in Friar's Shot on the river Ness, Inverness?

It does look like Sholt. I think he was living with his family in 1851(born 1789) in Towie, Aberdeenshire - on Scotlands People his birth place in 1851 looks like Slet :-\
Could it all be in the way it pronounced and possibly be Sleat??

Did Jonathan died before 1855? Can't see a likely entry for him post this year and the intro of statutory registration. Not many deaths for a Jonathan McInnes showing. The mayority of these show in either Sleat or Strath Invernessshire. Likely the name connects to Sleat as has been suggested. Freecen 1851 also shows birth place as Slet.
