Hello,
This is my first time posting. I’m looking for the grave of John Spencer (1879-1921), he was buried 14th November 1921 in Holbeck, Leeds. The plot number is 8183, I’d be very grateful if someone could find me any information about his burial...maybe a picture of his gravestone?
He’s been a bit of a nightmare, saying that he was born London Road in Camberley in 1879 but I’ve not been able to find him in any census records besides the 1911 one. His army records say that he was born in York Town, Camberley and that his fathers name was William (I know William was dead by 1907). I honestly think he was in witness protection so any info on him would be grand.
Thanks in advance folks!

Welcome to Rootschat
Have you checked with the cemetery to see if there is a headstone?
He married Maria Annie Franklin in 1907 York - does his marriage cert confirm his father as William and does it give an occupation for William?
-
I’ll have to look into checking with the cemetary at some point, I’m not in a position to go along at the moment. I’ve got his marriage certificate to Maria Annie and his dad is listed as deceased (and a tailor) and his fathers name is listed as William in his army records. I’ve also got birth certificates for the children and his own death certificate...not too sure where to go from here!

I notice the 1911 shows Maria b Surrey whereas she was b Gt Ouseburn. It’s odd that John is not on the 1901
-
Ah, that's just John running out of space. The Surrey part is for his place of birth: London Rd, Camberley, Surrey. Maria Annie is down as being born in Borobridge (Yorks), you're right though she was actually born in Great Ouseburn...not too far from Boroughbridge though!
It is strange that I can't find him on the 1901 census, if only he and Maria had married in 1901 instead of 1907! I can't find him on any census before 1911 so it's a bit frustrating, his army service records have been interesting but they don't have much more info.

John Spencer, age 42, Buried 14.11.1921, Holbeck Cemetery consecrated plot 8183.
Abode, Recreation Mount, Holbeck. Occupation: Carter
He was buried along with 18 unrelated others and there does not appear to be a headstone on the grave.
Regards, Ian

There does appear to be a relative of John also in this grave,
Doris Spencer, Age 18 months, buried 4 Jan 1922. Daughter of Alice Spencer, Abode: Recreation Mount.
-
Thank you so much Ian! Looks like I've a new line of inquiry :)

Only 2 Doris Spencer births with a mmn of Spencer 1920-1921 one in Lanchester and one - Doris V - in Pancras

The address on Johns Army papers in August 1914 is 8 Recreation Mount, Holbeck

Maria had a Doris in 1920 (Birth quarter 3, district Holbeck, mothers maiden name is Franklin) so maybe that's the same Doris who died in 1922? Not too sure where Alice fits in because I've no Alice Spencer's in my tree, maybe it's a typo? Maria Annie...Alice?

Re: The address on Johns Army papers in August 1914 is 8 Recreation Mount, Holbeck
That's why I suspect it Doris born in 1920; same address, same name...not too sure who Alice is though!
-
Also, all of his children with the exception of William were born on Recreation Mount

It may be worth ordering a PDF copy of the death cert from GRO to see if there is any other info about Doris.
