Looking for any info . Whittit does not seem a common name at all any idea where it would originate from?. Thank you
-
What document does it appear on?
Date, place, document type?
I suspect its an error of some kind.
I have sen a smattering of Whittet around
-
Was on a birth and death certificate which is now lost
-
So you have absolutely no idea of era or location (not even a decade or a country)?

Sorry just joined this tonight not on the ball, should have studied actually what this site is about .
I only came on as was googling on Google a name and someone had been looking on here, up until then never even knew this site existed, so I thought oh might give me ideas re this one as I came a blank on the huge ancestry site.

Hi Helen was born 1925 in Rubislaw Aberdeenshire and was registered with the spelling of Whittit This may be better on the Aberdeenshire board a moderator will be able to move it for you
As for the spelling of Whittit it could be an old spelling of the name that has been handed down There are 39 births in Scotland between 1855 when registration started up to the 1980's of Whittit's

Thank you so much for that info :)

If you don't know www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk is the only place to obtain Scottish records there you will be able to order Helen's birth marriage and death her death was in 1969 so unfortunately all fall out with the online cut off period or if you are near Edinburgh, Hawick, Kilmarnock Alloa Inverness or Glasgow you can visit one of the Family History Centres where you can view all certificates

Thank you again :) I did have all the certs but lost the file but I remember hitting a blank wall re her father hence me trying to find where the Whittit name came from no one in the family seems to know or they are not saying and I thought ok not a common name might strike lucky and get a lead if anyone knew of it.

There appears to be 2 families of Whittit in Aberdeenshire at the beginning of the 1900's Have you checked to see if there was a paternity case which would name the father although as it is within the 100 year cut off they aren't open to the public I believe NRS hold these records they might be able to advise you further

You are a star thank you so much :) Its a start
