Hello there. I was wondering if anyone had any memory or information about the Carroll family who once lived in Ballaghmore, co Laois. The parents being James and Annie Carroll. They had 8 children together, 6 of which were girls. My grandfather, James, is buried in Ballaghmore (St Molua’s church). None of family live there anymore and the house they once occupied lies derelict. My Mother was Theresa or Tess Carroll. I would love to know more if anyone has any memories to share. Especially since my Mother is now passed away. And there are so many things I’d love to ask her but I feel like I will never know her full story.

Welcome to Rootschat but it's difficult to give any advice without any idea of dates.

I don’t know exact dates although I believe my grandfather, James Carroll, died in 1946. My Mother, Theresa, was born in 1938. She was the third born to my grandparents. The first being twin girls, Ann & Mary. After my Mother was born, the other children born were Bridget, Michael, Leo, Agnes and Philomena.

James Carroll and Annie Campbell married 1937 by any chance?

Right, fairly recent then. Just remember that we aren't allowed to post details of living people here.
James' death certificate will list his age so we can hopefully search other records to find his family.
There are 73 deaths for a James Carroll in Ireland in 1940s and selecting the year 1946 means there are still 7 possibilities- none of which seem to be in the right registration district (unless James died away from home?).
There are 3 townlands in Queens Co. (Laois) with Ballaghmore in it- Ballaghmore (Athy registration district) & Lower & Upper (Roscrea registration district).
I did find a marriage of a James Carroll of Ballaughmore to an Annie Campbell in January 1937 but you'd need your mother's birth certificate to verify if these are her parents-

If you are looking for someone that might remember your family, you might look for a Facebook group that covers the area. That would be the place to go for current memories. I don't know about Co Laois, but Co Clare is really active and helpful, also Co Down and a south Down site as well.
Or a phonebook.
Edit to add: and they are a lot more able on Facebook to share information about living people.

Hello everyone. I haven’t logged in for a while and I’m very grateful for your replies and information. And yes, they were my grandparents, James and Annie Campbell who married in 1937. And also, the death certificate of my grandfather is also correct. I’ve never seen this before. I return to Ballaghmore fairly often but I don’t really know anyone to ask about my mum’s side of the family. And with my mum having passed, I wish I had asked more about her life there. Thank you so much to all of you.

Hello, I am also connected to this family and would love to connect with you! My mother was adopted from Ireland, she is the daughter of one of the twins. I am just now reading these posts and learning more about my family. I recently learned that A is alive.
