The attached is the cause of death of my wife's 3x Great-Grandfather who dies in 1881. I cam decipher 5 years and also 2 months but cannot make anything of the actual causes.
As always, any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Is the first one Cardiac Disease? The second starts with Cardiac as well I think
-
I think you're correct in both and I'm sure I can see a th in the last word.
Thanks for that!

I think the second "cardiac" is followed by "isthmus",but I can't currently make out the next line which might describe it's condition!
Roger
Added: I think the next line ends in "...2 months",which doesn't give me the greatest confidence about my initial reading!

The second cause may be cardiac ischemia ... duration 2 months. ???

I see after cardiac [poss] ischaemia] '...and dropsy 2 months' ie water retention or oedema.

Cardiac disease and Cardiac Asthma- latter is shortness of breath due to heart failure commonly associated with cardiac disease.
-
Yes, agree with that Strangways.

Agree with that - first for 5 years second for 2 months - I think. Can't read what is just in front of 2 months though. :-\

I think it says dropsy which is a term used to describe oedema, common in congestive and right heart failure where swelling of the ankles occurs and can be quite marked. So a combo of left heart failure giving fluid in the lungs, shortness of breath cough and sometime wheezing and right heart failure allowing fluid to build up in the extremities is cardiac asthma and dropsy. Dropsy is a description really not an actual diagnosis and it is very hard to read but given the preceding term of cardiac asthma that is the most likely addional symptom.

Thanks to all who responded - wasn't the easiest document to decipher I think you'll all agree!
