Title: Hands family, Warwickshire
Post by: Mickytom on Monday 26 November 18 12:23 GMT (UK)
Hello. Bit of a longshot, but does anyone have anything for a family by the name of Hands in either the village of Ilmington or nearby Shipston-on-Stour, Warwickshire. I have one individual born circa 1915, name possibly Molly, but not much else.

There are several Hands births in Shipston district 1910-1915.

1915 birth is Lydia D Hands mothers name Clarke.

There's a Lilian M Hands in 1911.

Do you have any ideas for parentage of this child?

There are 15 entries for the surname Hands in Ilmington in the 1911 census, and 14 in Shipston on Stour.

Molly is often a pet name for Mary.

How is it that you know her surname and place of birth yet her first name and year of birth is indeterminate? :-\

Do you know anything more about her? Even events in later life - 1939 register, marriage, children, death etc?

My dad and grandfather were Illmington men by the name of Arthur Hands. Dad’s cousin was called Molly. Her married name was Bradley and she lived in Northern Ireland. Her son was called Sid Bradley and was a University lecturer in Yorkshire. My grandfather served as a regular in the Coldstream Guards. Dad was in the RAF in the Second World War. Grandfather and his brother are on the list of those who served in WW 1 in the church in Illmington.
